My Uncle The Movie Star

In The Headphones: Neil Finn - One All
On The Nightstand: The Rotter's Club by Jonathan Coe

My uncle is at Sundance right now. He is in a film by Jake Mahaffy called War. When I was home for my grandmother's funeral in November of 2002 he was talking about the film and showed us a little bit of it that he had on video. The on-line film guide on the Sundance site has a nice write up about the movie saying "Not just a movie, WAR is a spiritual declaration". Anyway, that's quite exciting. I know he's having a good time hob-nobbing it with the stars.

My uncle is a cool guy, always involved in something interesting. He used to be very involved with the regional music scene, doing a lot of promoting and managing and what not. He used to hang out with the 10,000 Maniacs when they were just a local band. At one point he had a website going for bands to sell their music online. This was right before the advent of Napster and mp3's. Then he started writing for a local paper interviewing whatever big name rock bands came through their area. He's one of those people who can talk to anybody and people feel really comfortable with him. He's a great storyteller and funny as hell. His day job is at the state mental hospital working with the criminally insane. It takes a special kind of person to spend their day with the criminally insane.
